Ms Agneta

Advisory Board Member – Ms Agneta Johansson

Ms Agneta Johansson is the Deputy Director of International Legal Assistance Consortium (ILAC). She is a lawyer, specialized in international law and human rights law and has worked with these issues in different capacities. She has worked at the Foreign Ministry in Sweden in the department of international law as well as for several Swedish and International NGOs. She has lectured extensively on international law, human rights and gender justice in the Swedish Police Academy, Swedish Military Academy as well as in universities both in Sweden and in several other countries.

After the war in the Balkans in the end of the 90s, Ms. Johansson served three years in Bosnia. She started a few months as a Human Rights Officer at the OSCE, but was then recruited to the Office of the High Representative where she worked as the Head of the Department of Missing Persons and Exhumations.

Ms. Johansson has also lived and worked several years in the Occupied PalestinianTerritories (OPT). She was the first Director of the Swedish Christian Study Centre in Jerusalem 1990-1992 and was the Deputy Head of Staff at the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH) in 2002. For 15 years, Agneta was part of the Steering Group for a program run by the International Commission of Jurists (Swedish Section) in Israel and OPT. The long experience from work in the Middle East has been useful after the Arab spring when ILAC has intensified its work in these countries. ILAC has now programs in Tunisia, Morocco, Libya and together with the Syrian opposition.

Ms. Johansson was for several years a board member of the Swedish organisation Kvinna till Kvinna (Women to women) and is today a member of the board and the jury of the Right Livelihood Award, sometimes referred to as the alternative Nobel Prize.
