Afghan Ministry of Interior – Female Police Training

Practical training session at the ANP HQ in Balkh. The purpose is to train female officers to be able to respond to domestic violence situations and apprehend a male perpetrator using non-lethal methods.

Practical training session at the ANP HQ in Balkh. The purpose is to train female officers to be able to respond to domestic violence situations and apprehend a male perpetrator using non-lethal methods. The faces have been deliberately covered to protect the identity and well-being of these officers.

During 2012 Genderforce provided equipment, donated by private companies, to the Gender Unit with then Afghan Ministry of Interior  for them to restart their Female Police Officer training course. This was an initiative that previously was backed by EU Member States and the UN Law and Order Trust Fund (LOTFA) but had now ceased to provide the required funding for purchasing training equipment.

Our support to the Gender Unit provided them with the equipment and funds necessary to train 125 students out of their backlog of more than 4,000 Female Police Officers needed to fulfill the ANP tashkil (personnel roster). Several of these female officers, when interviewed by us, expressed their interest to after graduation work with enforcing the Afghan EVAW (Elimination of Violence against Women) law and to help other local women in their communities.

The trainers at the Afghan Ministry of Interior and the female police officers were very happy for the kind support that we received and facilitated to them from one of the world’s largest manufacturers of personal protection equipment that shared our vision and thus donated their products to this initiative.
